The FOUNDATION OF M.R.C, The Islamic world today is in turmoil and is seeking solutions to its problems. Sometimes turning to the West for help and at other times to the East for salvation but of little use. Muslim governments are working on a secular basis and are being blamed for these problems by religious leaders (Ulama'-E-Kram).
The situation of the majority Ulama'-E-Kram is that they preach disunity and can only unite if their terms are met on their conditions which are different from each other. Ordinary Muslims are today fed up with Ulama'-E-Kram of different groups interpreting differently regarding certain questions. Thus the word of molvi or Alama has become a laughing stock among Muslim masses, but it is essential to realise that Ulama'-E-Kram consist of religious and political leaders, researchers and ordinary preachers of Qura'n and Hadith. As the science in all walks of life progresses from generation to generation, the Qura'nic verses are understood in a different manner from the previous interpretations and will continue in this way until the day of Judgement because the Qura'n was revealed for all the generations to come after Prophet Mohummed (pbuh). So it is unfair to believe that the Ulama' - E - Kram are confusing Muslim Umma with different interpretations of the Qura'n and Hadith.

In April 1992, it became a sad fact when I heard one Sikh calling another Sikh friend a molvi and my fellow employees did not take any notice at all. I was shocked - the word molvi has never ever been heard in Sikhism, so my memory took me back to 1973 when a Muslim friend used to call a Sikh friend molvi. I did not care at all at that time and nor did others. This time it was different. I could not rest and asked fellow employees, sitting nearby, resting during their lunch hour, about the comment made by the Sikh. "Did you hear what this Sikh friend has said to the other?" One Muslim friend answered "Molvi", then I asked "Don't you know what this means, that we have reached a point where our Muslim scholars (molvis') are compared with Sikhs". Second Muslim friend answered: "well, from the present situation it seems that they are acting like Sikhs", then I said "You should be ashamed saying our Islamic teachers are like Sikhs". Third Muslim friend said "you will soon see at Ramadan and Eid, when Molvis' beaks clash" and the fourth Muslim friend went a lot further by saying that " Molvis have destroyed Islam". I was devastated and horrified by the comments made by the ordinary young Muslims and I could not sleep well for a few days. After consideration, I consulted some other friends who were shocked as I was.
I thought carefully and made a plan to reach our Muslim scholars and Molvis who are trying their best to make knowledge of Islam available to the Muslim Umma and spread Islam worldwide. Without them the light of Islam would not have reached us from our Prophet Mohummed (p.b.u.h.). It should be noted at this point that people today have made a custom to name people with a beard a molvi and without a beard a sufi when they see somebody praying. This behavior is utterly wrong because molvis' and sufis' are learned people and calling somebody with these respected names without Islamic knowledge is sinful.

There are always, of course, self named Ulama' - E - Kram, illiterate and wrong doers who tend to create disunity among Muslims. It is therefore the duty of every Muslim to be aware of them and make the "unity" a central point which will help to unite the Muslim world within the Islamic framework. In my spare time in the evenings or at the weekend I visited / telephoned Muslim scholars and Ulama' - E - Kram of various groups in a number of towns and cities in the UK This made them aware of the situations and thoughts being formed in the minds of ordinary Muslims about our respected Ulama' - E - Kram.
During these visits and telephone conversations, it became very clear that one of the major concerns to all Muslims in the UK is the need to find a solution to the moon sighting issue, which I sincerely believe would also help to bring about unity among the Muslims and restore the respect of Muslim scholars and Ulama' - E - Kram.
